In response to the devastating flash floods caused by the DANA weather system in October, Valencia Local Police (PLV) are moving forward with plans to pilot the LEAD-PRO tools in La Torre, one of the hardest-hit areas. A meeting held on February 21st, 2025, between representatives from PLV and Rafael Arnal, the Mayor of La Torre, set the stage for a collaboration that aims to bolster disaster preparedness and response in the region.
The purpose of the pilot is to integrate AI-based technology into La Torre’s disaster management framework, ensuring that the local police and first responders are equipped with the most advanced tools to deal with future emergencies. LEAD-PRO, which stands for Law Enforcement Assistance for Disaster Prediction and Recovery Optimisation, is an innovation action project designed to enhance the operational capacity of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and first responders through the use of AI-based tools and real-time data.
During the meeting, valuable information exchanged regarding key aspects of La Torre’s infrastructure, including flood-prone areas, critical infrastructure, logistical hubs, and the locations of Advanced Command Posts. This information is essential for adapting the LEAD-PRO platform to the unique needs of the community, ensuring that the tools can be used effectively in future disaster response scenarios.
LEAD-PRO aims to significantly improve coordination among the various stakeholders involved in disaster response, such as the police, firefighters, medical teams, and private security services. The platform leverages AI to provide predictive insights, real-time data visualization, and collaborative tools that enhance decision-making and streamline operations during crises.
This collaboration marks an exciting step forward for both Valencia Local Police and La Torre in their efforts to harness technology for disaster resilience. By piloting LEAD-PRO, La Torre will become one of the first communities to benefit from these cutting-edge tools, setting a model for other regions looking to improve their emergency management systems.
With the devastating impact of DANA still fresh in the minds of those affected, this pilot project represents a proactive approach to disaster risk management and recovery, and the hope is that it will serve as a powerful tool in mitigating the impacts of future natural disasters.
